I will be working on an independent data mining project to help determine how the center's patients cope with some of our external providers or a project dealing with PTSD and their military consumers.
BNHR is centered on community organizing and therefore does a lot of campaigning and rallying. I am helping out in several, or focusing only on one, campaigning efforts to bring about better immigration reform.
I will be working with the Information and Technology Department as well as the Frames of Reality Project, a subdivision of the Culture Media and Arts department. Duties, responsibilities, and specific assignments will be clarified upon arrival. For the mean time I have requested that I be given plenty of room to be independent; to network, meet people, engage in various projects throughout the organization, and create my own experience while spending time with the organization.
Most of my work with Dr. Gooldin will be performed as an independent project. My goal is to research the history of Arab-Israelis and also the current status of reproductive practices of Arab-Israeli women. In order to research, I will have to perform extensive literature reviews in addition to attending seminars with Dr. Gooldin when possible. Lastly, I will be assisting him with his own research in any way that is beneficial to him.
I will mainly focus my time on lobbying on behalf of the Palestinian LGBTQ community, by working with other activist from other human-rights and women’s organizations to educate others about homophobia and by working with the local press to promote news stories about the diverse Palestinian LGBTQ community. This organization is built upon the work of activists (like myself), therefore I will be actively participating in the events, projects, and the meetings that the organizations intends on undertaking. There will, however, be times, where I will be observing and documenting the experiences of the Palestinian LGBTQ community.
